Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb Dies at 62 [VIDEOS]
Yesterday a spokesperson stated "The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
Over the past couple of years we had heard he was battling colon and liver cancer. A month ago he slipped into a coma. Bee Gee fans were excited to hear the great news earlier this month that he was wake and communicating with his family. Giving us all hope that Robin could beat this thing. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
The Bee Gees were around a long time before their "Saturday Night Fever" fame. The three brothers, Robin, along with his twin Maurice and older brother Barry, started performing in the late 50's, but didn't have any success until the late 1960's.
Robin's twin Maurice passed away back in 2003 from a twisted intestine (Robin had surgery for the same thing). Andy Gibb, the youngest Gibb brother, had a successful solo career and passed away in 1988. Now Barry Gibb is the only surviving member of the Bee Gees.
Robin was my favorite of the Bee Gees. Robin was a great songwriter and had an unmistakeable voice and style. I have always loved the Bee Gees, but the old soul that I am, my favorite era of their career is the late 60's and early 70's before "Saturday Night Fever".
Rest in Peace Robin. We will miss you.
Below are a few of my favorite songs that Robin wrote with his brothers.
