Venturing outside these days makes it hard to breath. Even walking from the nice, cool office out to the car after work can make a girl sweat. And we don’t even want to talk about that temperature inside the car. Ouch! Those seats are sizzlin’.

We probably don’t have to tell you that a heat advisory is in effect for much of East Texas, including Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties, through 7pm Thursday. What does that mean exactly?

Air temperature may be a couple of degrees cooler, but the heat index will be over 105 for the next two days at least.

Yesterday I took my 2 and 4 year-old daughters out to the back yard to play kick ball early in the day yesterday, around 10am, and after two kicks the 4-year old said, “Mama, I need a drink of water!” I may have forced the kids outside for a little exercise, but at least I did have ample water supplies handy. And we were playing in the shade, so I’m not a terrible parent, right? After refueling with a little water, Finley said she had “plenty of energy,” but that lasted just two more kicks. So much for outdoor activity right now. The heat zaps us in a hurry. We spent the rest of the day inside in the comfort of the AC.

Some of the advice out there to cope with the heat: drink plenty of liquids, wear loose fitting clothing (not easy for fashion-conscious gals), and avoid strenuous work outside.

Bring on November!
