Justin Bieber Invites a Captivated ‘Today’ Crowd to ‘Love Yourself’, Duets with Halsey and Big Sean
While typically host to rabid pop music fans that could shatter Rockefeller Center's windows with their shrieks, Today found itself unusually silent this morning (November 18) as a bevvy of Beliebers listened intently to an acoustic performance of "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber.
On the heels of the release of Purpose, Bieber's fourth studio album, the pop star delivered a calm, scaled-back rendition of the track that's, conversely, spilling over with aggressive, dismissive venom (And I didn't wanna write a song / Cause I didn't want anyone thinking I still care," it bites). A little touch of bitterness with your cup of coffee...
And while Bieber predictably illuminated the stage, the morning wasn't totally sunshiny for the artist, who also performed singles "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean?" In a subsequent interview, he told Matt Lauer his friend Thomas Ayed was killed in the Bataclan Theater during the November 13 attacks on Paris, and that he's struggled to make sense of the bloodshed.
"It was really hard for me," said Bieber, who also offered condolences to Ayed's family in a tweet over the weekend. "We'd been working together for probably like four, five years. It's just a sad thing."

UPDATE: "Love Yourself" wasn't the only performance of the morning! As promised, Biebs invited Halsey on stage to perform their haunting Purpose duet, "The Feeling."
Watch the two try and find the truth...
And then, watch Bieber and Big Sean perform their drowsy, pressure-free collabo, "No Pressure."
