Netflix ‘Dear White People’ Trailer Gets Its Own Trigger-Warning

Despite its 2014 release as a film, Dear White People caused some minor uproar with its first Netflix TV series announcements. Thankfully, the full trailer for the adaptation of Justin Simien’s racial satire comes with its very-own trigger warning to weed out misplaced outrage.

Set to premiere on April 28, Netflix’s Dear White People sees Powers star Logan Browning taking over for Tessa Thompson as Samantha White, a biracial film major “at a crossroads of a political movement on her Ivy League campus” due to the titular radio show. The series also features Brandon P. Bell reprising his film role as Troy Fairbanks, while the synopsis reads:

Set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university where racial tensions bubble just below the surface, Dear White People is an hilarious send-up of “post-racial” America that weaves together the universal story of finding one’s own identity and forging a wholly unique path. The satirical series – which picks up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off – follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age. Through an absurdist lens, Dear White People utilizes biting irony, self-deprecation and sometimes brutal honesty to hold up a mirror to the issues plaguing society today, all the while leading with laughter.

Additional cast includes Antoinette Robertson (Coco), DeRon Horton (Lionel), John Patrick Amedori (Gabe), Ashley Blaine Featherson (Joelle) and Marque Richardson (Reggie). Dear White People will also feature Simien writing all ten episodes, as well directing the premiere, with Yvette Lee Bowser, Stephanie Allain Bray and Julia Lebedev executive producing.
