T-Shirts Under Fire For Demeaning Messages, Really?
A few weeks ago, I saw that JCPenney was getting attacked online for a t-shirt they were selling for girls that said “I’m too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me”.
JCPenney coward down to the public and pulled the shirt from their website. Now get ready for the next one.
Forever 21 has a t-shirt that says “allergic to algebra.” People are up in arms on these t-shirts because they say it sends the wrong message to girls, it's insulting to their intelligence and bad for their self-esteem.
Maybe I'll be blasted here, but I thought the shirts were kinda funny. I guess my parents did an awful job in raising me to believe that a t-shirt DOES NOT define me. My parents taught me to have a sense of humor and to try not to let the "little things" in life get me down.
Back in the 70's when I was a kid, I had a t-shirt that said "Hot to Trot". Wow, I didn't realize that that little t-shirt ruined my life. Remember the t-shirt that said "I'm with Stupid" and had an arrow pointing to the right or left? How many lives did that one ruin? If you don't like the t-shirts than don't buy them, simple enough! Personally, I think there are bigger things to worry about in the world.
I guess my question here is: Are these t-shirts really that devastating and horrible? Or, as a society have we just totally lost our sense of humor? Oh and by the way, yes...I am allergic to algebra.
