‘The Bronze’ Red Band Trailer: A Former National Treasure Gets Trashy
The Bronze was the first film to get critics buzzing at Sundance earlier this year, inspiring some fairly divisive reactions to the raunchy comedy, which stars The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch as a foul-mouthed, washed-up former Olympic gymnast. The first trailer has finally arrived to give you a NSFW taste of what all the fuss was about — turns out, it just sort of looks okay.
The Bronze is the directorial debut of Bryan Buckley, who helmed the film based on a screenplay Rauch co-wrote with her husband Winston Biegel. The actress plays against her sitcom type here in the role of a gymnast whose injury forced her to move back home to her small town, which made her pretty unpleasant to be around, apparently. Rauch’s character appears to lean heavily on empty profanity, though there’s more humor to the non-profane stuff in the trailer.
Here’s the official plot description:
In 2004, Hope Ann Greggory became an American hero after winning the bronze medal for the women’s gymnastics team. Today, she’s still living in her small hometown, washed-up and embittered. Stuck in the past, Hope must reassess her life when a promising young gymnast threatens her local celebrity status.
